African Red Palm Oil -  is the oil from native, organically grown Dura oil palm fruit (Elais guineensis) from Africa.  * Red palm oil is palm oil that is traditionally made and maintains the natural nutrients of  beta carotenes (precursors to Vitamin A) and the antioxidant tocotrienols (Vitamin E).  So nourishing to the skin!  Red Palm oil is very high in Vitamins A & E and is superior for skin nutrition and protection.  This oil is rich in Beta-Carotenes--15 times more than a carrot and 300 times more than tomatoes!

African Wild Honey - See Honey

Aloe Vera - The mucilaginous juice or gel obtained from the leaves of this plant, widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations for its soothing and healing properties.  * Known to help reduce external scarring, relieve sunburn pains, scratches and cuts.   It is an aid to growing new tissue and alleviating the advance of skin cancer caused by the sun. It is a treatment for ringworm, boils, inflamed joints, scalds, itchy allergic conditions, insect stings and bites. It creates a softening of external skin, relief from dry or sensitive skin and skin diseases. * We use our own home grown Aloe Vera that contains no preservatives or dyes - strictly organic. 

Almond Oil - Pale yellow fatty oil expressed from sweet or bitter almonds.  * A  very good massage oil and is beneficial  for dry skin and helps relieve itching, soreness and dryness. It is reported to be soothing, healing, lubricating, softening, revitalizing and nourishing.  Good for sensitive or irritated skin.  

Apricot Seeds - Seeds retained from the fruit of the Apricot.  Great for exfoliation.

Apricot Meal - Originating in central Asia, apricot kernels are ground into a fine powder which makes for an excellent exfoliant.

Avocado Oil - Penetrates the skin more deeply than other plant oils and is therefore an ideal base for transdermal treatments and a natural carrier for added supplements to reach the deepest target areas. This oil is pressed from the fruit itself. Avocado is high in antioxidants that give it a longer shelf life than would be expected. It contains fatty acids, vitamins and lecithin. Avocado oil readily penetrates into the upper layers of the skin. It is used to treat eczema and solar Keratosis. It is very nice for dry and weathered skin.

Baking Soda - Also known as bicarbonate of soda, baking soda is used as a leavener in baked goods. When combined with an acid ingredient such as Citric Acid (used in our bath bombs) the baking soda produces carbon dioxide gas bubbles, thereby causing a fizzing reaction to occur.

Bentonite Clay -Contains more than 70 trace minerals, but its unique healing ability comes from the clay's negative charge. (Gelatin also used in fining has a positive charge). The negative charge of Bentonite is responsible for its amazing detoxifying properties: as a magnet for the toxic elements in our body - heavy metals, pesticides, and free radicals - which are positively charged efficiently absorbent and drawn into the porous surface of the clay.  When mixed with water, Bentonite 'swells up' (this is imperceptible to the naked eye) and becomes very porous. The electrical and molecular components change and produce an electrical charge. This enables it to absorb toxins from the pores. Toxins are drawn into the clay through electrical attraction and then bound to the clay molecules to be washed away.

Beeswax - Wax produced by bees that has been processed for use in items as a hardening agent.

Calendula Flowers - A Mediterranean annual plant (Calendula officinalis) in the composite family, widely cultivated for its showy, yellow or orange, rayed flower heads that were formerly used in medicine.  Calendula Flowers have a long history as skin softeners.  They are very soothing to sensitive and dry skins and are excellent additions to facial soap. 

Carrot Powder - high in retinol A, beta carotene and A - carotenoid, farcinol, and cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein and zeazanthin. Carrot contains sodium, zinc, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, folate, vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E, and K, beta carotene protein, carbohydrates, fiber, sugars, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium.  Good for allergies, aneamia, rheumatism, and tonic to the nervous system. With optimized behaviors (adequate rest and a healthy diet) carrot is known to contribute to improved vision; Good for treating diarrhea, constipation, intestinal inflammation, for cleansing the blood, and as an immune system tonic. Carrot is beneficial in weakness, illness and in treating rickets.  An English-Danish study found falcarinol may prevent cancer. Carrots are well-known for containing beta-carotene, a pre-cursor in the body's production of vitamin A. Carrots with a rate of 49 in the Glycemic Index provide for more constant blood sugar levels. Vitamin A assists in boosting immune system function and also for healthy vision.  Some carotenoids, like zeaxanthin and lutein, are important for preventing cataracts and macular degeneration which is a leading cause of visual impairment.

Castor Oil - is a vegetable oil  obtained from the castor bean.  * Castor oil is very soothing and lubricating to the skin because it is rich in fatty acids.  It acts as a humectant attracting moisture to the skin.

Cedar (or Cedarwood) Essential Oil - therapeutic properties of cedarwood oil are anti-seborrhoeic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, tonic, astringent, diuretic, expectorant, insecticide, sedative and fungicide.  Cedarwood oil benefits the skin by its sedating ability which relieves itching. Its astringent action is great for acne, oily skin, as well as for hair and dandruff. It helps with chest and urinary infections, acts as a general tonic and has a pronounced effect on mucus membranes.

It has a calming and soothing effect on the mind and is of great help in conditions associated with anxiety and nervous tension. It is also of value in cases of arthritis and rheumatism.

Chamomile Flowers - antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile make it a widely used external treatment for acne, arthritis, burns, ulcerated areas of skin, and even diaper rash.  Can also be used to combat inflammation, stimulate the regeneration of cell tissue, and promote the healing of refractory wounds and skin ulcers.

Chamomile Essential Oil - Oil derived from an aromatic perennial herb (Chamaemelum nobile) in the composite family, native to Europe and the Mediterranean region, having feathery foliage and flower heads with white rays and yellow centers. * Chamomile  is extremely effective on the skin, not only to sooth and calm, but to heal and for tissue regeneration.  It can be used to calm acne, eczema, rashes, wounds, dermatitis, dry and itchy skin and other allergic conditions. 

Charcoal (activated) - Activated charcoal is commonly used in emergency treatment for specific kinds of poisonings and drug overdoses to keep the poison from being absorbed from the stomach into the body. Activated charcoal is one of the finest absorptive and adsorptive agents known.

Citric Acid - Citric Acid is derived from citrus and used primarily to adjust the pH of products to prevent them from being too alkaline or acid-alkali balance. It is also an all-natural mild preservative and sequestering agent. It is used in shampoos, conditioners, shower gels and in bath bombs, mixed with sodium bicarbonate makes the water fizz.

Citronella E.O.  - Fragrant oil from the tall herb that is the best natural non-toxic mosquito repellent you can find. Light, fresh lemon scent with geranium-like notes.  Purifying and vitalizing aroma.

Clary Sage E.O.  - It is a native to southern Europe and is a stout biennial herb that grows up to 1 meter (3 feet) tall with large, hairy leaves and small blue/ white flowers growing directly off the long, thin stem. It is cultivated for oil production in France and Russia.  Clary sage is a popular essential oil to relax your spirit and it helps get rid of the restlessness from stress and an overactive emotional state. As with some other essential oils, it is distilled from the leaf of a plant that is known to relax you simply from its aromatic smell. It brings you a feeling of well being and within twenty four hours will make you feel like you can conquer the world.

Clove Spice from dried unopened flower bud of the clove tree; used whole or ground * Clove oil can be used for acne, bruises, burns and cuts, keeping infection at bay and as a pain reliever.

Cocoa Butter - A yellow-white fat from cocoa beans. * Rich in nutrients essential for skin repair, this is a very rich & intensive cream which will rehydrate and feed dry, hungry skin.

Coconut Oil - Oil derived from coconuts.  * Enhances soaps hardness and produces creamy lather, but has a tendency to dry the skin.  Wherever the coconut palm grows the people have learned of its importance as a effective medicine.  In traditional medicine around the world coconut is used to treat a wide variety of health problems. On the skin, coconut oil can kills fungi and yeasts that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, and other infections.  It can reduces inflammation and supports tissue healing and repair. 

Colorants - Pigments we use to color soap.  * We use all natural ingredients to color our soaps, as well as micas, wax colorants, ultramarines or oxides.  Most of these colorants are groups of naturally occurring Earth's minerals which are mined from around the world, purified, and crushed into fine powders. 

Corn Starch - produced through the milling of corn to extract the starch, which is then processed and dried to a fine powder. For cosmetics, the most well known use of corn starch is in powders as a natural, more healthy alternative to talc.

Dead Sea Clay (aka Green Sea Clay) - an extremely gentle natural clay with a soft moss color and is kind to all skin types due to its high mineral content and excellent oil absorbing properties. Egyptian Rose Geranium  - (Pelargonium graveolens) - Our Egyptian Rose Geranium Essential Oil is extracted from the plant Pelargonium graveolens and has a much sweeter rosy aroma that other oils on the market.  The aromatic, rose-scented herb originates from Egypt whereby the oil is obtained from distillation of the plant's flowers. * Rose geranium oil can have a balancing effect on the nervous system and relieve depression and anxiety, while lifting the spirits and making the world an easier place to live in.  It has a balancing effect on the adrenal cortex and is great for relieving stress. Rose geranium oil can be used in blended massage oil, or diluted in a bath to assist with PMS, depression, stress, anxiety and tension, fluid retention, edema, eczema, shingles, cellulite, bruises, ringworm, hemorrhoids and menstrual irregularities.  Also can be used to treat acne, hemorrhoids, eczema, bruises, ringworm and lice.

Essential Oils - high-quality oils distilled from the leaves, flowers, barks, berries, and roots of various herbs and shrubs.  Mostly used for therapeutic and medicinal qualities. 

Eucalyptus Essential Oil In aromatherapy, this essential oil helps to clear the mind and focus concentration, while reducing swelling in the mucus membranes. It is very valuable in fighting respiratory problems, fighting inflammation and sore muscles, rheumatism, headaches and nervous exhaustion, while boosting wound and ulcer healing and soothing skin eruptions.  Eucalyptus oil is useful as a warming oil when used for muscular aches and pains, rheumatoid arthritis, sprains and poor circulation. In skin care it can be used for burns, blisters, herpes, cuts, wounds, skin infections and insect bites. It can furthermore boost the immune system and is helpful in cases of chicken pox, colds, flu and measles.  *Eucalyptus oil should be used with care and people with high blood pressure and epilepsy should avoid it. Excessive use of this oil may cause headaches.

Eucalyptus Leaves is a diverse genus of trees, the members of which dominate the tree flora of Australia.  * Rubbed on the skin, eucalyptus has been known to stimulates blood flow and generates a feeling of warmth which may help relieve minor muscle soreness.

Evening Primrose Oil - contains a high concentration of a fatty acid called GLA and it is this fatty acid that is largely responsible for the remarkable healing properties of the plant. In fact, Evening Primrose contains one of the highest concentrations known of this important substance and only a few other plants contain it at all. This makes Evening Primrose an important medicinal herb, and as studies continue, the list of benefits will likely become much longer. The gamma-linoleic acid, linoleic acid and other nutrients in this oil are essential for cell structure and improve the elasticity of the skin. Treatment of acne and rosacea: By working to dilute sebum, a thick oily substance that is oversecreted in some people with acne, the essential fatty acids in evening primrose oil may reduce the risk of pores becoming clogged and lesions developing. The oil's EFAs help treat rosacea by reducing inflammation, controlling cells' use of nutrients and by producing prostaglandins, which stimulate the contraction of blood vessels.

Fragrance Oils - blends of oil with natural/synthetic or just synthetic. 

Frankincense - also know as Frankincense Tears is an aromatic gum resin obtained from various Arabian or East African trees; formerly valued for worship.  * The essential oil has a wonderfully calming effect on the mind and helps to create inner peace, while helping to sooth the respiratory and urinary tract and relieve pain associated with rheumatism and muscular aches, while having a rejuvenating, balancing and healing action on the skin. Frankincense burned as incense is used as an inhalant and an expectorant during coughs and colds. It helps in clearing the lungs and is very useful in helping one to deepen their breaths in order to overcome the shortness of breath associated with asthma and bronchitis. It is also known to be an anti-catarrhal which means it heals and soothes inflammation of mucous membranes, especially in the nose and throat therefore it is also good to use if you have laryngitis. Frankincense oil is excellent for the whole respiratory system.

French Green Clay - Derived from rock quarries located in the south of France and containing a cornucopia of valuable elements, which include many important mineral oxides: magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, copper, and selenium.  It is regarded as a useful treatment for stimulating the skin and removing impurities from the epidermis (outermost layer of skin cells). The clay works by adsorbing impurities from the skin cells, by causing dead cells to fall off and by stimulating the flow of blood to the epidermis. Geranium E.O. -  This oil is distilled from the leaves of the plant. It has a leafy rose scent and has been long revered for its fragrance. A balancing oil for the mind and body, Geranium relaxes, restores and maintains stability of the emotions.

Goat Milk -  Goat's milk has twice the Vitamin A and 50% more Vitamin B than cow's milk, as well as more calcium and protein.  Even more importantly, it has a unusual molecular structure that allows for easy absorption, which makes it an ideal skin care ingredient.  Higher absorption means more effective moisturizing! Glycerin (natual) - a wonderfully emollient sweet, thick liquid found in various oils and fats and can be used to moisturize and protect the skin.  * Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin.

Glycerin Soap Base (Melt & Pour Kind) - Our Melt & Pour Glycerin Soap base is ALL VEGETABLE OIL and contains no alcohol or harmful products to dry your skin! Contains glycerin (as described above), a natural emollient which draws moisture out of the air to benefit skin health. It cleanses without stripping or upsetting the delicate natural pH balance necessary for soft, healthy skin. And, since we use no heavy animal oils, our soap rinses clean and leaves no soapy film behind. Honey is antimicrobial for several reasons, including its high sugar content, which limits the amount of water available to bacteria for growth; its relatively high acidity (low pH); and its low protein content, which deprives bacteria of nitrogen needed for growth. The presence of hydrogen peroxide and antioxidants in honey also inhibit bacterial growth. African wild honey is very unique and completely natural. Hops Herb - flowers of Humulus lupulus, a flowering vine native to North America, Asia, and Europe. You probably know that hops are one of the major ingredients in the popular beverage beer. It’s a plant that’s been used to brew the beverage for centuries. However, hops can be used for much more than making an alcoholic liquid.  Dried hops can be used for a variety of things. For example, if you’re having problems with inflammation of a joint or other area of the body, you can create a poultice of dried hops. When you apply it directly to the affected area, you’ll enjoy soothing relief. In addition, hops can be put in a sachet made of cheesecloth or old nylons and placed under your pillow. This will help you to fall asleep and have sweet dreams if you’re suffering from insomnia.  If you suffer from menstrual cramps that sometimes seem unbearable, hops can also help you to find relief. The plant works to fight muscle spasms that cause the painful cramps. In addition, it can fight spasms in the respiratory system that cause asthma. Israeli Dead Sea Black Mineral Mud - Our Dead Sea Mud is collected from the sediment on the banks of the Dead Sea where sulfuric springs flow. Lanolin - an emollient with moisturizing properties and an emulsifier with high water absorbing capabilities; yellow substance from wool-bearing animals that acts as a skin ointment.  Also known to closely resembles the oil from human oil glands. * Lanolin will soothe, soften and protect the skin. A great addition for those times when skin becomes dry, chapped or cracked.

Lard - The white solid or semisolid rendered fat of swine. * Soaps made with lard are quite mild to the skin and reasonably hard to the touch. 

Lavender - any of various aromatic Old World plants of the genus Lavandula, having clusters of small purplish flowers that yield an oil used in perfumery.  * AROMATIC BENEFITS: relaxing, calming, refreshing, balancing, cooling and soothing.  PROPERTIES: antibacterial, antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antiseptic, antiviral, antispasmodic, detoxifying, disinfectant, decongestant, normalizes blood pressure and sedative. Can also reduce redness.

Lemon Essential Oil - pressed from the rind of the fruit. It usually has a pale yellow color and smells just like a fresh lemon, only with more tang and richness.  Lemon oil has a fresh, uplifting scent. * Lemon oil is astringent and detoxifying and is therefore great for blemishes associated with oily skin. Lemon oil also has rejuvenating properties and will brighten dull skin. Eases hypertension, relieves herpes, promotes immune system health, alleviates cellulitis, targets obesity, edema, lymph nodes, treats acne, boils, oily skin, corns, warts, wrinkles, fever, inflamed and painful joints, gout, PMS, jet lag, mouth ulcers, asthma, throat and upper respiratory ailments, hair loss, poor circulation, nosebleeds, depression, dissipates confusion, aids concentration, and works as an anti-bactericidal.

Loofah Sponge - the dried fibrous part of the fruit of a plant of the genus Luffa; used as a washing sponge. 

Mango Butter - obtained from the fruit seed of the Mango Tree (Mangifera Indica) grown in the sub-tropics of India and other parts of the globe.  Mango Butter exhibits excellent moisturizing for lotions and good lubricity on skin. 

Melt & Pour Glycerin - See Glycerin Soap Base (melt & pour)

Moroccan Red Clay - product of powdered rocks from beneath the Atlas Mountains. Moroccan Red Clay consists of naturally occurring dolomite, silica, ferric oxide and mineral oxides. 100% Pure. It is a strong cleansing clay that draws excess oils from the skin and stimulates circulation. Moroccan red clay has also been shown to improve the smoothness of skin by 106% after just one use.

Mineral Oil -  Cosmetics-grade mineral oil is considered the safest, most nonirritating moisturizing ingredient ever found.

Myrrh - an aromatic gum resin obtained from several trees and shrubs of the genus Commiphora of India, Arabia, and eastern Africa that is burned as incense and used in perfume.  * Myrrh is ideal for opening up congestion and mucous clogging passages. The circulation is increased by stimulation of the capillary activity, and it promotes absorption of nutrients and increases the number of white blood cells.  Hailed for its anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties, myrrh has historically been used for ailments as diverse as stomach pain, indigestion, poor circulation, wound healing, certain skin diseases and is a wonderful healer for dermatitis, eczema, bruises and difficult to heal wounds. Soothes and softens skin, simulates skin cell regeneration, improves circulation, preservative. Antiseptic, reduces inflammation, helps heal blemishes and wounds. Myrrh oil is non-irritant and non-sensitizing but could be toxic in high dosage and should not be used in pregnancy as it can act as a uterine stimulant.

Neroli Essential Oil - is one of the most popular essential oils, as it not only has great therapeutic properties, but also has the most incredible smell. It has a greatly relaxing effect on the body and mind, relieving muscle spasms, calming heart palpitations and has a wonderful rejuvenating and regenerative effect on the skin, helping to prevent ugly scarring and fighting stretch marks.

Oatmeal - A very mild exfoliant.  Great for people with sensitive skin that need minor skin exfoliation.

Olive Oil - oil pressed from Olives.  * Olive oil has anti-aging and anti-wrinkling properties;   a good antioxidant and assuredly an excellent moisturizing ingredient.  Olive oil makes a creamy but very hard bar of soap, and is gentle enough for babies and those with sensitive skin.

Palm Oil (red) AKA African Palm Oil is the oil from native, organically grown Dura oil palm fruit (Elais guineensis) from Africa.  * Red palm oil is palm oil that is traditionally made and maintains the natural nutrients of  beta carotenes (precursors to Vitamin A) and the antioxidant tocotrienols (Vitamin E).  So nourishing to the skin!  Red Palm oil is very high in Vitamins A & E and is superior for skin nutrition and protection.  This oil is rich in Beta-Carotenes--15 times more than a carrot and 300 times more than tomatoes!

Palm Oil (white) expressed from certain types of palm trees, including the trunk and leaves, and the tree's large seeds. * Palm oil makes for a mild soap with a long-lasting lather and enhances the final hardness of the bar.  Like coconut oil, however, palm oil tends to be slightly drying to the skin. Palm oil is far superior to other vegetable oils and is universal and used in many expensive luxury soaps.

Passion Flower - Passiflora incarnata (herb petals) - Passion Flowers are a native perennial vine of the Southeastern United States.  Passionflower is edible and medicinal. There is scientific evidence of the medicinal constituents of this herb. Recent studies have pointed to the flavonoids in the Passion Flower as the primary constituents responsible for its relaxing and having anti-anxiety effects. Some of the plants constituents, Apigenin, Luteolin, Kaempferol, and Quercetin, are being studied and show promise in fighting Parkinson's Disease, Cancer, HIV, Leukemia, and more. The leaves and stems are medicinal when used as antispasmodic, astringent, diaphoretic, hypnotic, narcotic, sedative, vasodilator and are also used in the treatment of women's complaints.  The Passion Flower is also used as an alternative medicine in the treatment of insomnia, nervous tension, irritability, neuralgia, irritable bowel syndrome and premenstrual tension. An infusion of the plant depresses the motor nerves of the spinal cord, making it very valuable in the treatment of back pain. The infusion is also sedative, slightly reduces blood pressure and increases respiratory rate. The herb contains alkaloids and flavonoids that are an effective non-addictive sedative that does not cause drowsiness. It is of great service in epilepsy. The plant is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Patchouli E.O. - Patchouli oil is extracted from Pogostemon cablin (also known as Pogostemon patchouli) of the Labiatae family and is also known as patchouly and puchaput.  Although this essential oil may remind people of the hippie era, its value in skincare is incalculable. It is also great for fighting depression and anxiety. It has great diuretic properties and also helps break down cellulite, while stimulating the regeneration of skin cells, speeding up healing and preventing ugly scars forming when wounds heal.

Petrolatum Jelly -  helps the skin's outer layer recover from damage and generally heal the skin.  Cosmetics-grade petrolatum is considered the safest, most nonirritating moisturizing ingredient ever found.

Peppermint Leaves - See Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil - extracted from Mentha Piperita of the Labiatae family and is also known as brandy mint and balm mint.  The leaves, as well as the oil have been used for dermatitis, acne, ringworm, scabies and pruritus and also relieves itching, sunburn and inflammation of the skin, while at the same time having a cooling action.  This cooling and refreshing essential oil is used in aromatherapy to stimulate the mind, increase mental agility and to increase focus, while cooling the skin, reducing redness and calming irritation and itchiness.  Peppermint oil is excellent for mental fatigue and depression, refreshing the spirit and stimulating mental agility and improving concentration.

Petitgrain Essential Oil - is a crisp and clear essential oil is most useful to boost the conscious intellectual side of your mind, while calming anger and panic. Its relaxing properties help to calm rapid heartbeat and insomnia while clearing greasy skin and fighting skin blemishes.

Pine Tar - Antimicrobial and antifungal, Pine Tar can help slow the rapid proliferation of skin cells and restore the skin's appearance. In addition, Pine Tar can help reduce the inflammation, itching and scaling of psoriasis.  We have also discovered it works great to reduce or remove dandruff and the associated itchy scalp. 

Pumice Powder all natural small grain used for exfoliation of the skin. 

Red Alaea Sea Salt - This Hawaiian sea salt is harvested from salt farms on the tiny island of Molokai.  100% Natural Organic Sea Salt known to be rich in trace minerals. Small amounts of red Hawaiian clay ('Alaea) are imparted into the salt as it dries under the Hawaiian sun.

Red Clover - This incredible herb has been attributed to treating a number of conditions.  Traditionally, these have included cancer, whooping cough, respiratory problems, and skin inflammations, such as psoriasis and eczema.  Red Clover was thought to "purify" the blood by acting as a diuretic (helping the body get rid of excess fluid) and improve circulation.  Also known to accelerate wound healing.

Rose Petals  - (Rosa centifolia) - The rose, also known as the Queen of Flowers, has been used for thousands of years.  It is suitable for all skin types, but it is especially valuable for dry, sensitive or aging skins - not to mention its very sensual scent that is most pleasing to just about anyone.

Rose Geranium  - (Pelargonium graveolens) - See Egyptian Rose Geranium - above

Rosemary (fresh, dried and essential oil) - an aromatic evergreen Mediterranean shrub ((Rosmarinus officinalis) having light blue or pink flowers and grayish-green leaves that are used in cooking and perfumery. * Rosemary oil has a pronounced action on the brain and the central nervous system and is wonderful for clearing the mind and mental awareness, while having excellent brain stimulant properties, as well as improving memory.  It helps with headaches, migraines, neuralgia, mental fatigue and nervous exhaustion and the antiseptic action of rosemary oil is especially suitable for intestinal infections and diarrhea, easing colitis, dyspepsia, flatulence, hepatic disorders and jaundice and relieving pain associated with rheumatism, arthritis, muscular pain and gout. It also helps for arteriosclerosis, palpitations, poor circulation and varicose veins.  Known for skin healing and scar treatment. Rosemary Verbenone is also a popular skin-care essential oil, known to enhance the skin's natural metabolism. Rosemary will improve the nutrient flow into skin cells, and speed the elimintation of metabolic wastes as well. 

Sandalwood (powder and essential oil) - a small tree that grows primarily in India. The essential oil contains high amounts of alpha- and beta-santalol. These small molecules possess antibacterial and sedative properties. * On the skin, sandalwood oil relieves itching and inflammation of the skin, and is most effective in relieving dehydrated skin - making it great for anti-ageing skincare - and the astringent action has a great toning effect and is also used with great results in oily skin conditions and to prevent the skin from forming ugly scars and for fighting dry eczema.

Saponified - To process by which soap is formed.  Occurs when fats and/or oils are combined with an alkali.

Sea Clay (also known as Dead Sea Clay) -  Sea Clay is an extremely gentle natural clay with a soft moss color and is kind to all skin types due to its high mineral content and excellent oil absorbing properties. This clay helps to revitalize tired skin which is why many spas use it to tighten pores and remove impurities and excess oils and brighten the complexion when used as a body wrap clay, face masques, etc.  It is also thought that this clay can remove acne causing toxins from the skin.

Sea Weed Kelp / Sea Weed Powder - is a seaweed or sea vegetable naturally found attached to ocean rocks along the coast.  * Seaweed is full of lipids, proteins, minerals and vitamins that are readily absorbed into the skin.  Upon absorption, Seaweed rebalances, nourishes, detoxifies, purifies, oxygenates and deeply moisturizes the skin’s texture and tone.  Seaweed is an excellent source of minerals, amino acids, as well as Vitamins A, C, B1, B12, D, E, K & P.   The use of Seaweed also stimulates and improves blood and lymph circulation.  Seaweed is also very similar to human plasma - making it ideal for cleansing, toning and soothing human skin while regenerating broken capillaries and the skin's tissue, to render a more youthful appearance.   It also makes a great exfoliant.

Shea Butter - Shea Butter is the oil from the nuts of Vitellaria paradoxa Gaertner (Sapotaceae), which is also known as Butyrospermum parkii.  * Shea Butter contains a high percentage of unsaponifiables, which account for its superior moisturizing and healing properties.  Shea contains vitamins A and E, and has demonstrated both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. All of our Shea Butter is directly imported from Africa and is some of the best skin butter you can find on the market today.

Soybean Oil - An all natural, and organic Soybean oil high in natural source lecitihin, sterolins, and vitamin E for epidermal healing.  Soybean oil is easily absorbed and leaves a smooth sensation to the skin.  People with dry skin may find that taking organic soybean oil daily improves elasticity and softness, making them look younger.

Spearmint Leaves - In vapor therapy, Spearmint Leaves can be used for headaches, migraines, nervous conditions, asthma, bronchitis and to relieve itching.  May also be used as a blended massage oil for above conditions. 

Sunflower Oil - Sunflower seeds are expressed to produce this light oil which is high in linoleic acid, Vitamins A, B complex, D, and E, as well as calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, and phosphorus. * Externally, it is used for bruises, dermatitis, and ulcers.  Also very nourishing and moisturizing.

Sweet Almond Oil - A light nourishing oil with excellent penetrating properties. Beneficial for all skin types, very good for dry, sensitive skin. Relieves itching, dryness, inflammation.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil - Essential oil expressed from rip oranges. Orange essential oil efficiently tackles the problem of colds and flu. It detoxifies the body and boosts the lymphatic system. At the same time, it also takes care of the collagen formation in the skin. It is known to possess antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, sedative, antiseptic therapeutic properties and can help diminish wrinkles.

Tallow - Pure fat that remains after fat has been rendered to remove impurities. * Soaps with tallow are mild to the skin and hard to the touch.  Soaps with tallow will have creamy bubbles.

Tea Tree Oil - Tea tree oil is extracted from Melaleuca alternifolia of the Myrtaceae family and is also known as ti-tree, ti-trol and melasol. Many antiseptics are harsh on delicate tissue or are hampered by the presence of pus and other organic matter. Tea tree oil is very effective in the presence of pus and it does not harm healthy tissue. Instead, it promotes the growth and repair of healthy tissue, which lessens the chance of scarring. It can also reduce itching and irritation.

Vitamin A - A fat soluble vitamin. Vitamin A (a.k.a. retinol, or preformed retinol) plays a varied role in the human body. This vitamin assists in keeping the immune system working properly, helps to ensure the healthy formation and maintenance of body tissue, particularly skin and hair, but also bone, is involved in the maintenance of tissue lining in the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts (i.e., lungs, intestine and urinary tracts), and of course, vitamin A is a requisite compound in the maintenance of vision, particularly low-light (night) vision.  A lack of vitamin A can cause skin to become dry and hardened. Used to increase collagen production, a wrinkle fighter and an exfoliant. Retinol is the technical name for Vitamin A. Research suggests that topical Vitamin A can help build collagen fibers and exfoliate the skin, thereby minimizing the appearance of fine lines.

Vitamin E -  first discovered to be anti-aging in that it reduced MDA (Malonyldialdehyde) in the skin.  Its ability to hydrate on the skin surface improves smoothness and softness, thus reducing facial fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to maintain healthy skin by eliminating harmful free radicals generated during cellular metabolism, with its antioxidant properties.

Wheat Germ Oil (Triticum vulgari) - the oil from the embryo of the wheat grain of the cereal species of the genus Triticum which has been cultivated for at least 10,000 years. The germ is extracted from the wheat as a source of vitamins and is a known source of pure Vitamin E. Wheat germ oil is emollient, anti-oxidant and rich in natural vitamin E. It also serves as a natural preservative. Vitamin E is known for its healing effects and is proven to help prevent scarring and speed healing.  A rich source of vitamin E that smoothes the skin and serves as an antioxidant, is a natural preservative, supports the skins natural process of regeneration; aids muscle and lymph function and is particularly valuable for treating dry, ageing skin, good for stretch marks and scar tissue, and for dry rough skin, leaves the skin very smooth while nourishing and helping heal the skin, moisturizes and softens, contains carotene and vegetable lecithin which nourish skin cells and prevent moisture loss.

Wild African Honey (Imported from Togo, Africa) - See Honey

Witch Hazel -  An extract of the leaves and bark of the Hamamelis Virginnia plant used as an effective astringent. It can dry out spots, reduce oil on the skin, and soothe bruises and sprains.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil -  From the flowers of the tall tree from Madagascar. A small tropical tree whose name means Flower of flowers. Attractive fragrance used on its own. If used too strongly the perfume can be overbearing and cause headaches. Historically it has been used for its intrinsic aphrodisiac properties. Useful to use in stressful situations and in general skin care. Sensual, balancing, relaxing, uplifting. Relaxes the body.

Apple Orchard F.O. - A wonderful blend of juicy apple fragrances.

Apricot F.O. - Fresh fruity apricot scent.

Apricot Tangerine F.O. - A pleasant citrus blend of both apricots and tangerines.

Baby Bee Buttermilk F.O. - Similar to Bert's Bees fragrance - a delicate blend of vanilla, peach, violet and sugar.

Baby Powder F.O. - A delicate, light, fresh air fragrance. Top notes of clean ozone, citrus and nuances of cherry. Heart notes of classic jasmine, Ylang Ylang and a delicate rose.   Woody powder, spicy vanilla and sensual musk complete the fragrance.   *Note this fragrance oil has some vanilla.  All vanilla scents can brown soap.  Use in a dark colored soap or expect some light browning.

Barber Shoppe F.O. - A very sexy manly scent.  Reminiscent of olden day barber shoppe aftershave or Old Spice.

Forest Pine F.O. - A wonderful woodsy pine scent.

Frankincense & Myrrh E.O. / Boswellia carteri (Frankincense) Oil + Commiphora myrrha (Myrrh) Oil A unique blend of Frankincense Essential Oil & Myrrh Essential Oil.  Very strong and robust woody musk scent.  Must be used lightly.

Garden Mint F.O.  - Scent of freshly picked Spring Garden Mint.

Geranium E.O. / Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) Oil - Has a strong smelling oil with a floral aroma and a hint of mint.

Ginger E.O. / Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil - Therapeutic essential oil express from the Ginger Root.  Not so pleasant in scent (almost a pungent scent), but pleasant when combined as 25% Ginger E.O. and 75% other essential oil.  

Ginger Lime F.O. - A delightful citrus mix with fragrant ginger. Top notes of zesty lime, muguet, crisp apple, grape and tangy grapefruit. Floral mid notes of jasmine, rose and lilac. Ripe plum, luscious peach, ginger and a whisper of camphor. A light musk at the base completes the fragrance.

Green Clover and Aloe F.O. - A clean fresh fragrance with the soothing quality of aloe. Top notes of zesty lemon, fresh floral, muguet and crisp apple. Mid notes of prune, juniper berry, sage and aloe, mix with a floral bouquet of rose, lavender and gardenia. An amber musk completes the fragrance.

Hazelnut Cappuccino F.O. - Smells just like a cup of Hazelnut flavored Cappuccino.

Heart's Desire F.O. - A soft floral romantic fragrance. Compares to Bath & Body Works. Top green notes mix with lemon, fresh ozone and lily of the valley. Juicy floral mid notes with an exquisite rose and jasmine. A light camphor intermingles throughout the fragrance. Violet, powder and amber musk resonates at the base.

Jasmine F. O.   - Very sweet powerful floral scent.  Said to lift the spirit and lead to brighter days.

Lavender F.O. - Wonderful light floral aromatic herb scent.  Not as strong as the essential oil.

Musk F.O.  -The age-old masculine scent with a powdery top note. One of the earliest perfume scents. Nothing else smells as good. Its ability to excite and arouse has been spoken of for centuries. You may not even be aware of its fragrance, but your own body chemistry is releasing the sensual aroma of Musk and it's working its magic on all those around you.

Oakmoss F.O. - A most unusual blend of Oakmoss, Vetiver, Vanilla, Nutmeg.  Very nice and calming scent.  *Note this fragrance oil has some vanilla.  All vanilla scents can brown soap.  Use in a dark colored soap or expect some mild browning.

Patchouli E.O. / Pogostemon cablini (Patchouli) Oil  - Patchouli is not a subtle fragrance. Very robust musky, strong spicy and herbaceous scent.  Most people either love it or hate it.  We find it is a very nice scent if used on the lighter side.

Botanical Herbs & Soap Additives - These items can be added, right before the soap is poured into the mold, for a more therapeutic luxurious bath bar.

Apricot Meal - Originating in central Asia, apricot kernels are ground into a fine powder which makes for an excellent exfoliant.

Chamomile Flowers - antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of chamomile make it a widely used external treatment for acne, arthritis, burns, ulcerated areas of skin, and even diaper rash.  Can also be used to combat inflammation, stimulate the regeneration of cell tissue, and promote the healing of refractory wounds and skin ulcers.

Bentonite Clay -Contains more than 70 trace minerals, but its unique healing ability comes from the clay's negative charge. (Gelatin also used in fining has a positive charge). The negative charge of bentonite is responsible for its amazing detoxifying properties: as a magnet for the toxic elements in our body - heavy metals, pesticides, and free radicals - which are positively charged efficiently absorbent and drawn into the porous surface of the clay.  When mixed with water, bentonite 'swells up' (this is imperceptible to the naked eye) and becomes very porous. The electrical and molecular components change and produce an electrical charge. This enables it to absorb toxins from the pores. Toxins are drawn into the clay through electrical attraction and then bound to the clay molecules to be washed away.

Calendula Petals - A Mediterranean annual plant (Calendula officinalis) in the composite family, widely cultivated for its showy, yellow or orange, rayed flower heads that were formerly used in medicine.  Calendula Flowers have a long history as skin softeners.  They are very soothing to sensitive and dry skins and are excellent additions to facial soap. 

Carrot Powder - high in retinol A, beta carotene and A - carotenoid, farcinol, and cryptoxanthin, lycopene, lutein and zeazanthin. Carrot contains sodium, zinc, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, folate, vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E, and K, beta carotene protein, carbohydrates, fiber, sugars, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium.  With so many active compounds, this would be a great skin conditioner.

Eucalyptus Leaves - is a diverse genus of trees, the members of which dominate the tree flora of Australia.  * Rubbed on the skin, eucalyptus has been known to stimulates blood flow and generates a feeling of warmth which may help relieve minor muscle soreness.

French Green Clay - Derived from rock quarries located in the south of France and containing a cornucopia of valuable elements, which include many important mineral oxides: magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, copper, and selenium.  It is regarded as a useful treatment for stimulating the skin and removing impurities from the epidermis (outermost layer of skin cells). The clay works by adsorbing impurities from the skin cells, by causing dead cells to fall off and by stimulating the flow of blood to the epidermis. As the clay dries on the skin, it causes the pores to tighten and the skin to feel firm and refreshed.

Green Sea Clay (aka Dead Sea Clay) - an extremely gentle natural clay with a soft moss color and is kind to all skin types due to its high mineral content and excellent oil absorbing properties. This clay helps to revitalize tired skin which is why many spas use it to tighten pores and remove impurities and excess oils and brighten the complexion when used as a body wrap clay, face masques, etc.  It is also thought that this clay can remove acne causing toxins from the skin.

Jasmine Petals - In Chinese medicine Jasmine flowers are known to "cool" the blood and have a strong antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-tumor properties. Rose Petals - The rose, also known as the Queen of Flowers, has been used for thousands of years.  It is suitable for all skin types, but it is especially valuable for dry, sensitive or aging skins - not to mention its very sensual scent that is most pleasing to just about anyone.

Rosemary (herb leaves) - an aromatic evergreen Mediterranean shrub ((Rosmarinus officinalis) having light blue or pink flowers and grayish-green leaves that are used in cooking and perfumery. * Rosemary oil has a pronounced action on the brain and the central nervous system and is wonderful for clearing the mind and mental awareness, while having excellent brain stimulant properties, as well as improving memory.  It helps with headaches, migraines, neuralgia, mental fatigue and nervous exhaustion and the antiseptic action of rosemary oil is especially suitable for intestinal infections and diarrhea, easing colitis, dyspepsia, flatulence, hepatic disorders and jaundice and relieving pain associated with rheumatism, arthritis, muscular pain and gout. It also helps for arteriosclerosis, palpitations, poor circulation and varicose veins.  Known for skin healing and scar treatment. Rosemary Verbenone is also a popular skin-care essential oil, known to enhance the skin's natural metabolism. Rosemary will improve the nutrient flow into skin cells, and speed the elimintation of metabolic wastes as well.

Seaweed Kelp - is a seaweed or sea vegetable naturally found attached to ocean rocks along the coast.  * Seaweed is full of lipids, proteins, minerals and vitamins that are readily absorbed into the skin.  Upon absorption, Seaweed rebalances, nourishes, detoxifies, purifies, oxygenates and deeply moisturizes the skin’s texture and tone.  Seaweed is an excellent source of minerals, amino acids, as well as Vitamins A, C, B1, B12, D, E, K & P.   The use of Seaweed also stimulates and improves blood and lymph circulation.  Seaweed is also very similar to human plasma - making it ideal for cleansing, toning and soothing human skin while regenerating broken capillaries and the skin's tissue, to render a more youthful appearance.  It also makes a great exfoliant.

Aloe Vera - The mucilaginous juice or gel obtained from the leaves of this plant, widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations for its soothing and healing properties.  * Known to help reduce external scarring, relieve sunburn pains, scratches and cuts.   It is an aid to growing new tissue and alleviating the advance of skin cancer caused by the sun. It is a treatment for ringworm, boils, inflamed joints, scalds, itchy allergic conditions, insect stings and bites. It creates a softening of external skin, relief from dry or sensitive skin and skin diseases. * We use our own home grown Aloe Vera that contains no preservatives or dyes - strictly organic.

Avocado Oil - Penetrates the skin more deeply than other plant oils and is therefore an ideal base for transdermal treatments and a natural carrier for added supplements to reach the deepest target areas. This oil is pressed from the fruit itself. Avocado is high in antioxidants that give it a longer shelf life than would be expected. It contains fatty acids, vitamins and lecithin. Avocado oil readily penetrates into the upper layers of the skin. It is used to treat eczema and solar keratosis. It is very nice for dry and weathered skin.

Castor Oil -  is a vegetable oil  obtained from the castor bean.  * Castor oil is very soothing and lubricating to the skin because it is rich in fatty acids.  It acts as a humectant attracting moisture to the skin.

Cocoa Butter - A yellow-white fat from cocoa beans. * Rich in nutrients essential for skin repair, this is a very rich & intensive cream which will rehydrate and  feed dry, hungry skin.

Evening Primrose Oil -  contains a high concentration of a fatty acid called GLA and it is this fatty acid that is largely responsible for the remarkable healing properties of the plant. In fact, Evening Primrose contains one of the highest concentrations known of this important substance and only a few other plants contain it at all. This makes Evening Primrose an important medicinal herb, and as studies continue, the list of benefits will likely become much longer. The gamma-linoleic acid, linoleic acid and other nutrients in this oil are essential for cell structure and improve the elasticity of the skin. Treatment of acne and rosacea: By working to dilute sebum, a thick oily substance that is oversecreted in some people with acne, the essential fatty acids in evening primrose oil may reduce the risk of pores becoming clogged and lesions developing. The oil's EFAs help treat rosacea by reducing inflammation, controlling cells' use of nutrients and by producing prostaglandins, which stimulate the contraction of blood vessels.

Glycerin - a wonderfully emollient sweet, thick liquid found in various oils and fats and can be used to moisturize and protect the skin.  * Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin.

Goat's Milk - Goat's milk has twice the Vitamin A and 50% more Vitamin B than cow's milk, as well as more calcium and protein.  Even more importantly, it has a unusual molecular structure that allows for easy absorption, which makes it an ideal skin care ingredient.  Higher absorption means more effective moisturizing! As goats milk has wonderful restorative and moisturizing properties for your skin, it is also mild enough for sensitive or troubled skin and gentle enough for a baby. Whether your skin is oily or dry the goats milk can help to bring your skin to a healthy balance.

Grape Seed Oil - high in vitamin E, C, D and Beta-carotene. Grape seed oil also contains linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and palmit oleic acid. These essential fatty acids help repair damaged skin, wrinkles around the eyes, stretch marks, varicose veins and spider veins by penetrating the skin with their moisturizing properties. It has emollient properties that impart a rich, silky luster to skin while soothing skin irritation. Contains prime ingredient for damaged and stressed tissues, possessing regenerative and restructuring qualities which allow a better control of skin moisturization. It can help skin retain the normal structure of epithelium cells and nerve cells via supporting the cell membranes. 

Jojoba Oil - Pronounced ho-ho-ba - serves as an excellent moisturizing agent with exceptional spread and lubrication properties and leaves a rich velvety non-oily feel on the skin while retarding water loss and enhancing the flexibility and suppleness of the skin. Good for eczema & psoriasis.

Lanolin - an emollient with moisturizing properties and an emulsifier with high water absorbing capabilities; yellow substance from wool-bearing animals that acts as a skin ointment.  Also known to closely resembles the oil from human oil glands. * Lanolin will soothe, soften and protect the skin. A great addition for those times when skin becomes dry, chapped or cracked.

Mango Butter obtained from the fruit seed of the Mango Tree (Mangifera Indica) grown in the sub-tropics of India and other parts of the globe.  Mango Butter exhibits excellent moisturizing for lotions and good lubricity on skin. 

Mineral Oil - Cosmetics-grade mineral oil is considered the safest, most nonirritating moisturizing ingredient ever found.

Olive Oil - oil pressed from Olives.  * Olive oil has anti-aging and anti-wrinkling properties;   a good antioxidant and assuredly an excellent moisturizing ingredient.  Olive oil makes a creamy but very hard bar of soap, and is gentle enough for babies and those with sensitive skin.

Palm Oil - Palm oil is a form of vegetable oil obtained from the fruit of the Oil palm tree. Each fruit contains a single seed (the palm kernel) surrounded by a soft oily pulp. Oil is extracted from both the pulp of the fruit (palm oil) and the kernel (palm kernel oil). Palm oil is the largest natural source of tocotrienol, part of the Vitamin E family.

Pine Tar - Antimicrobial and antifungal, Pine Tar can help slow the rapid proliferation of skin cells and restore the skin's appearance. In addition, tar can help reduce the inflammation, itching and scaling of psoriasis.

Sal Butter - (Shorea Robusta Seed Butter) is obtained from the seed of the Sal Tree (Shorea Robusta) grown in east central India. From this seed a firm but pliant “butter“ is rendered.  Due to its uniform Triglyceride composition, it exhibits high skin softening ability. 

Shea Butter - Shea Butter is the oil from the nuts of Vitellaria paradoxa Gaertner (Sapotaceae), which is also known as Butyrospermum parkii.  * Shea Butter contains a high percentage of unsaponifiables, which account for its superior moisturizing and healing properties. All of our Shea Butter is directly imported from Africa and is some of the best skin butter you can find on the market today.

Soybean Oil - An all natural, and organic Soybean oil high in natural source lecitihin, sterolins, and vitamin E for epidermal healing.  Soybean oil is easily absorbed and leaves a smooth sensation to the skin.  People with dry skin may find that taking organic soybean oil daily improves elasticity and softness, making them look younger.

Sunflower Oil -  Sunflower seeds are expressed to produce this light oil which is high in linoleic acid, Vitamins A, B complex, D, and E, as well as calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, and phosphorus. * Externally, it is used for bruises, dermatitis, and ulcers.  Also very nourishing and moisturizing.

Sweet Almond Oil - A light nourishing oil with excellent penetrating properties. Beneficial for all skin types, very good for dry, sensitive skin. Relieves itching, dryness, inflammation.

Vitamin E. Oil - first discovered to be anti-aging in that it reduced MDA (Malonyldialdehyde) in the skin.  Its ability to hydrate on the skin surface improves smoothness and softness, thus reducing facial fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to maintain healthy skin by eliminating harmful free radicals generated during cellular metabolism, with its antioxidant properties.

Wheat Germ Oil -  the oil from the embryo of the wheat grain of the cereal species of the genus Triticum which has been cultivated for at least 10,000 years. The germ is extracted from the wheat as a source of vitamins and is a known source of pure Vitamin E. Wheat germ oil is emollient, anti-oxidant and rich in natural vitamin E. It also serves as a natural preservative. Vitamin E is known for its healing effects and is proven to help prevent scarring and speed healing.  A rich source of vitamin E that smoothes the skin and serves as an antioxidant, is a natural preservative, supports the skins natural process of regeneration; aids muscle and lymph function and is particularly valuable for treating dry, ageing skin, good for stretch marks and scar tissue, and for dry rough skin, leaves the skin very smooth while nourishing and helping heal the skin, moisturizes and softens, contains carotene and vegetable lecithin which nourish skin cells and prevent moisture loss.

 

Colorants - Please note that some oils are yellow or dark orange and can affect the way colors end up looking in a bar of soap.  Also note that any fragrance oil that has any form or vanilla will brown the bar somewhat. The Oxides & Ultramarines tend to be more color stable in cold process soap. When using glycerin melt and pour bases, you can only use micas or our solid liquid colorants which come in blue, red, yellow, orange, green & purple.
