African Black Soap - This is 100% authentic African Black Soap imported directly from Africa.  We do not make this soap, but have had so many requests for these bars that we located a supplier that receives these directly from customs and are now able to offer the smaller bars.

Description:  In Africa, black soap is the only homemade soap used by mothers to wash their newborn babies as its purity makes it gentle and non-drying for their sensitive skin. This African Black Soap is produced in small batches by hand, using age-old traditional techniques. The authentic African Black Soap is handmade in Africa from pure virgin oils following fair trade and organic guidelines. The ingredients of the African Black Soap are Virgin Palm Kernel Oil & Palm Oil, Plantain Skins, Palm Leaves, Cocoa Pod Powder, potash produced from the ashes of Plantain Leaves and naturally occurring glycerin as a result of the soap making process.  In addition, there are no chemicals added as preservatives, color enhancers, or fragrances and has a natural, earthy scent.

Storage of African Black Soap  African Black Soap is a soft milled soap and has a very high natural glycerin content. As a result, it readily absorbs moisture from the air. It must be stored in a dry location or in a sealed plastic bag or it will become soft as it absorbs moisture. Black soap exposed to the air will have a thin white colored film. This film is not mold - it is caused by absorption of water from the air. This can be avoided by keeping the soap in a dry location away from moisture until ready for use. ***When using bath bars - DO NOT allow them to sit in water or they will dissolve into a mushy mess.

How African Black Soap is Made:  African Black Soap is made with virgin palm kernel oil, residues from making unrefined shea butter, plantain leaf ashes and bark of the Agow tree. The shea butter residue adds the base necessary to saponify the virgin palm kernel oil. All of the ingredients are simple and natural. The soap-making process is highly sophisticated, and requires hand-stirring for at least a day. After the soap has crystallized, it is allowed to cure for two weeks.

Uses of African Black Soap:  African Black Soap is an excellent all purpose soap. It is recommend especially for individuals with sensitive skin. In Africa, it is known for making smooth skin and is also used to treat skin irritations and other skin conditions. African Black soap can be formed into bars or balls with pressure. As soon as you begin using the soap, the contact with water will make it keep its shape. Also, you can make a liquid soap, shampoo or body wash by filling a container loosely with the black soap and adding water to fill (see below instructions). The soap pieces will dissolve into the water and form a versatile soap. Finally, the scent of the African Black Soap is very organically mild and pleasant.

African Black Soap Sugar Scrub Recipe   *** So Easy!!!  Takes just a few minutes to make!

The below recipe provides a little under 1oz of scrub which is the perfect size for one to two uses.  Maybe be doubled as many times as you like for a larger batch.

What you will need:

1 T African Black Soap

2 t Sugar (white or brown)

1/2 t Unrefined Shea Butter

1-2 drops of Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil OR a tiny squirt of perfume or cologne (optional)

Small Mixing Bowl

Basic Directions:

Shred or tear apart into tiny pieces around 1T or slightly more of African Black Soap.  Add 2t of white or brown sugar and 1/2t of Unrefined Shea Butter and Fragrance or Essential Oil is using.  Collect everything in hands and mixing well, work into a solid flat ball.

Note:  If you are making more than one batch at a time - take special care NOT to allow water near the finished product or the sugar could melt into a mushy mess before you are ready to use.  IT is best to wrap each individual scrub separately away from humidity or moisture.

How to Use:

After your African Black Soap Sugar Scrub Ball is complete, you may cut into two separate pieces for two uses.  You may use your scrub immediately by adding water and gently rubbing over skin; buffing away dead skin cells and leaving a fresh bright top layer of skin.  Rinse and dry.  You should feel a difference on your skin after the first use.

Great for use in the shower for all-over body buffing or at the kitchen sink for help in removing cooking hand odors from onions, garlic, etc.  Men have also said it is great for removing grease and grime from work related jobs.   *Try some and see how many uses you can find for your scrub.
